這課題的主要作業是學生自選題目的研究論文,約二十五頁。論文分階段撰寫:首先是提案和參考文獻,然後是工作大綱;論文定稿在學期末到期。學生在學期中口頭發表進度報告,和在學期末發表研究的完整報告。

再者,每星期有兩位學生負責介紹指定閱讀書目的討論。

以前的學生選題有「瑞典博物館的模擬動物野生狀況展館」,「以無線電追蹤鳥類和動物」,「哥斯大尼加國家公園的開發」,「十九世紀嘗試從政治面和環境面管理西北太平洋岸的印地安保護區」,「十九世紀末期加勒比區發展天氣預測」。



The primary written assignment for this subject is a research paper of approximately 25 pages, on a topic of the student's choice. The paper is written in stages: first a proposal and bibliography, then a working outline; the completed paper is due at the end of the semester. Students present an oral progress report in the middle of the semester, and give a full report on their research at the end.

In addition, each week two students are responsible for introducing the discussion of the assigned readings.

In past terms, students have written on topics such as Dioramas in Swedish museums; Radio tracking of birds and animals; Development of national parks in Costa Rica; Attempts to control Indian reservations in the Pacific Northwest during the 19th Century, both politically and environmentally; and the development of weather forecasting in the Caribbean at the end of 19th Century.
